When is the last time you experienced the silence of the night?
We live in a noisy world. There is noise everywhere. Radios blast and televisions blare. Automobiles roar and appliance whine and churn. It is hard to find a moment of silence. At night we come closer to experiencing real silence than any other time. But in the city, even at night, there is no true silence. Trains rumble down tracks before the crack of dawn. Sirens whistle and the next door neighbor's juke box shakes the walls of your bedroom. Refrigerator compressors turn on and off, phones ring, clocks tick, and faucets drip; and what should have been silence turns into midnight madness. Then, there are times of true silence. When we can hear God. In moments such as these, when the world is shut out, God can make an announcement to your soul that can encourage the lonely and inspire the hopeless.
However it's an announcement that may come in a whisper and can be heard in the silence of the night.
Such an announcement came in Bethlehem about 2,000 years ago. It came on a silent night, when all was calm. When the world could hear it best, the angel declared: Unto us a child is born...ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
God has an announcement for your soul; listen and you will hear it clearly.
