Testimony
No one's life story is a soliloquy. No achievements or honors are attained by the singular acts of one person alone. Behind every world champion, there is a small army of coaches, assistants, and advisers. For every Oscar-winning actor, there are directors, screenwriters, and coaches that have contributed. Every politician who wins an election stands on the shoulders of staff and volunteers who sacrificed to make it happen. Every woman who achieves a challenging goal is surrounded by a supporting family. Every man fortunate enough to have a good wife will see her signature at the end of every line of his epitaph. John Dunn had it right "No Man is an Island."
What role has God played in your story? Are there chapters in your life story where you detailed your accomplishments, noted your failures, but never mentioned the Lord? Were there times in your own life when you tried to live outside of God's will?
And when those great moments came and you embraced great success, did you recognize God's role in your story? Did you know that without the invisible hand of God working in the background and the power of his inspiration working in the foreground, you could not have achieved your dreams so far? Those who recognize that can relate to the words of Bette Midler when she said, "I could fly higher than an Eagle because you are the wind beneath my wings."
Your family story reaches back for generations. Your grandmother and grandfather and before them their grandmothers and grandfathers have left a rich legacy of achievement, struggle, and hope. Today, we stand on the shoulders of their accomplishments. We reap the benefits of their sacrifices. There isn't a single moment in our lives in which the lifeblood of those who've gone before us is not evidenced in our words and deeds. Godly families gladly report that through it all God has helped them to achieve, to survive and thrive.
A generation ago Gladys Knight sang a hit song that Christians have changed around to be our testimony about God's involvement in our lives. The new version says, "If anyone would ever write my life story for whatever reason there might be you'll be there between each line of pain and glory, Jesus is the best thing that ever happened to me."
As Christians, we recognize that between every line of pain and glory of our story, God has been there to sustain us and give us hope. To God be the glory for the things He has done!
