We are fascinated by the stars!
As children, we grew up singing Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are..We waited for dusk on a clear day and tried to find the first star and we made a wish because wishing to the evening star was thought to bring good luck. Whenever we saw a shooting star, we were happy for that was good luck too. We even traced the shapes of the constellations: the big dipper, little dipper and other recognizable forms.
Over a decade ago the space program launched the Hubble telescope into orbit. Its purpose was to study the stars and the universe from the vantage point of space orbit and help discover secrets about the origins of the world and the workings of the universe. Science wants to know more about the stars. It wants to know more about the planets and their beginnings.
As Christians, we too are fascinated with the beauty of the universe and the stars. But it is not the stars themselves that excite us; its our desire to know more about the one who made the stars. It is not the creation of the planets that fascinates us, its the creator of the planets that captures our spirit.
Our quest is to know our God in a closer, more personal way each and every day. We don't make that discovery on a star trek, but by drawing ourselves closer to him every day of our lives. Let it begin today.
