In every aspect of American life, there is someone who has to serve as the custodian. We enjoy a football game, but it wouldn’t be too enjoyable if the stadium, its restrooms, and grounds were not maintained. We enjoy the movies, but it would be as enjoyable if it was left unkept.
The importance of custodians has been highlighted in all of America because it’s a job that few people want, but no real enterprise succeeds without them. What do they do? Custodians clean floors, shampoo floors, remove the trash, fix leaky faucets, replenish bathroom supplies, monitor air conditioning, vacuum, sweep, dust, make minor repairs, exterminate insects, wax and dry mop floors. Those who are employed at schools also discipline unruly students, wait for late parents, break up fights, monitor halls, and serve as role models for fatherless youth.
The school custodian is essential to a school’s operation. He is one good man or woman
While it doesn’t take a Ph.D. to serve as a school custodian, it does require many other qualities, most important of which is trust. Often the custodian has the keys to the building; in many cases, he is the first man in and the last man out.
It is not the kind of profession that can be taken lightly because the custodian knows more about the building than the principal and is often closer to many children than the teacher.
If you are a custodian of anything it requires you to care for it, tend to it, protect it and hold it until it is time to let it go. It requires a good man.
A good man is one who obviously has learned to live his life in a way that is favorable to God. Such a life finds grace in God's sight and earns him favor.
As Christians, we strive to live a life that will be pleasing to God. To the best of our ability, we strive to obey His will and respond favorably to his call. When we do that, we become good men in His eyes.
