Every generation has been fascinated with lawmen and female law enforcers. We have watched them wearing their shiny badges with awe.
Every boy at one time or another has toyed with the fascination of becoming law enforcement officer. Today, even girls dream of being law enforcement officers, FBI agents and deputies. Whether its the Kung Fu and comedy antics of Jackie Chan in Rush Hour or the Tough Guy of Walker Texas Ranger, youngsters admire the heroes.
Name the generation and there is a lawman upon whom the people trusted most and feared least.
Who was your favorite lawman?
Was it Lash La Rue with his twisting walk, stinging whip and sidekick Fuzzy Jones? Was it Hop A Long Cassidy who always wore a big white hat? For some, Wild Bill Hickok represented law and order, along with his sidekick Jingles, who would always shout, Wait for me Wild Bill! Matt Dillon loved Dodge City so much that he saw more of Festus Hagan than he did Miss Kitty. Roy Rogers and Dale Evans wore no badge but along with Gene Autrey they were the symbols of law and order for an entire generation; just as the thundering hooves of the mighty horse Silver always brought on the Lone Ranger and Tonto. As Christians, we have learned that there is one law giver and one hand that guides us all; the hand of God. Sustained by the unseen, but present, spirit of God we have been able to shoulder burdens we thought were too heavy to bear. Today, thank God for Jesus who is our help in times of danger and peril.
