Have you been disturbed by the increase of senseless mass murders we have witnessed in the last few years? The frequency and morbidity of the rash of murders, killings, and shootings have placed a dark cloud over the sense of comfort and security we have come to expect in this nation.
Regularly our nation watches in horror as the media details murders of dozens of people. The names of victims are etched in our collective memories; we recite them like the alphabet.
Murderous tragedies are occurring in big cities and small towns across the nation. The rapidity of the occurrences troubles and consumes us in a shroud of darkness that tests our faith and strains our hope. Ironically, our national horror begins to resemble the plight of the people of Gotham City in the movie "Batman". They were being threatened by the presence of an evil character who was beyond their power to defeat. Batman hadn’t been seen or heard from in eight years; they looked for a hero to defeat evil. This villain, however, was so evil that even Batman had his hands full.
As evil seems to triumph, we don't look to a comic book superhero to save us.
We look to Jesus to help us triumph over evil.
