Have
you ever been anxious about the beginning of something new?
Most people have butterflies when they begin a new venture; no matter how
prepared they seem to be. Whether it's beginning a new marriage, starting fresh
in a new city or starting a new year most have a special blend of curiosity,
anxiousness, and uneasiness as they face the unknown.
As
each New Year begins most of us are at least a little curious about the year
ahead. Past experience has shown that very few years work out the
way we plan them, and every year always brings the unexpected. What seems to be
strong and solid in one minute proves to be inadequate in another. Life often
deludes us with deceptive appearances and shallow relationships that frustrate
us increasingly as we move throughout the year. Thing are seldom what they
appear.
What
we have learned is that we can make plans but the will of God supersedes our
most thought out courses of action. Whatever happens in the year to
come depends on God's will for our lives because He holds our future in his
hand.
So, as the New Year begins our faith experience has taught us to fast, pray and
seek God's guidance before we make a single step in any direction.
As Christians, we should not be too anxious or fearful. The same God who
brought us through last year is still in control. We will trust in Him. He will
guide our steps in the days ahead.
