The nation has been inundated with dismay after the tragic reports of the loss of eleven lives, considerable resources and damages to the environment that has been caused by an oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, owned by the British Petroleum Company, known as BP.
Oil Spills such as the BP spill are not without precedent. While the BP oil spill dumped an estimated 207 million gallons of oil in the Gulf, over the years the world has grimaced and frowned as it saw one oil spill after another. In 1979 there was 140 million gallons of oil spilled in the gulf in a blown well that took a year to cap. In1991 the Iraqi forces released 380 gallons of oil into the Persian Gulf that created a 4inch thick slick that covered 4000 square miles. The Exxon Valdez struck a reef in Prince William Sound, AK on March 24, 1989, spilling 10 million gallons of crude. The slick spread over 2,600 square miles.
Spilling oil has a devastating impact on the environment, destroying natural habitats and endangering the lives of millions of aquarian species. Oil spills are destructive to say the least.
God has oil, but it never spills. God's empowering oil fills but never spills. Psalm 23:5 says, "thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." God's oils runs over but it never spills.
As Christians, we are grateful that God has never capped the well from which our blessings flow. He never spills a single blessing, and no blessing flowing from heaven ever spills.
