Do you remember a time in your life when you wanted to be chosen?
Was there a position on your job that you wanted? Was there a group on campus that you anxiously wanted to be a part of?
Has there ever been a special person in your life whose affections you desired? Has there ever been a position or appointment that you needed to further a dream or goal? If your answer to these questions is yes then you are among those who have experienced the ecstasy and the agony of being chosen in the real world. There is little doubt that you have experienced the exhilarating joy of selection and the agonizing pain of rejection. Together, they show us a type of what every Christian can expect as a result of a decision to accept Christ's personal selection and call to service.
Bruce Larson in his book Wind and Fire notes that a great lesson can be learned about the Christian experience if we reviewed the various moments in our lives when we were chosen or rejected for a particular task. How we felt about the selection and how others felt about us bears a striking resemblance to the position of the Christian today.
As Christians, we know that many are called but few are chosen to be followers of the king. To be chosen requires elements of character, conscious and heart that can only be judged by God almighty. We don't have to try to compete with others to serve, for God has a special purpose for each of us in the work of the kingdom.
Those of us who are among the chosen should be honored that God has chosen us to hold up the banner of faith, and commit ourselves to live for him everyday.
