Have you ever had visitors in your home? During the holidays many expect visits from their family and friends. Some visits are expected and anticipated with great joy. There are other visits that are unexpected and still others that seem to never end. There are occasionally a few visitors that we dread.
Visitors in modern time differ from those of times past. A few generations ago, visitors came to visit for weeks or months at a time. It was not unusual for a cousin, aunt or in-law to visit for the entire summer or at least a few weeks. The front porch was a place where many families received visitors. Equipped with rockers and swings visitors in the past would sit on the porch and talk for hours before leaving. Technology has reduced visiting to mere contacts. Today visits are made by land base telephone, cell phones, video cams, text messaging, email, Facebook and MySpace pages. Personal visits are reserved for very special people and even those must be short.
Special preparations are usually made when we expect visitors. There is generally a quick house cleaning and pick up when visitors are expected; its even quicker if the visitor is not expected but is spotted turning into the driveway. Visitors receive our best manners, eat out of our best plates and are afforded our most cordial courtesies. As Christians, we celebrate we celebrate the coming of a heavenly visitor. He comes into our lives to brighten our days, correct us when we stray, bless us, heal us and love us. He shows us that he loves us every day.
