In the movies, blood suckers are exciting to watch, but there are real life blood suckers that are not funny, exciting or glamorous.
Bloodsuckers are everywhere. In nature, trees lose their life substance when certain vines wrap themselves around them and suck the sap from them. Farmers call the vines sap suckers. Those who study birds tell us that the Yellow Belly Sap Sucker bores holes into trees and drinks its sap. Leeches, Lamp Eels, and mosquitoes draw blood as well.
Bloodsuckers are those things in life that drain the life out of us. They steal our joy, happiness and peace of mind and leave us like walking zombies with no passion or spirit. They don't appear once a year in October; they exist everyday of the week, 52 weeks a year.
When life seems to be draining us of our life substance, that's when we thank God for Jesus.
It is the grace of God that renews us and gives us new energy, power, hope and inspiration.
Our Lord does not ask us for blood, he gives us blessings through his blood, if we trust him.
As Christians, we are aware that there are many forces in life that drain our life substance. We give thanks to God for his Son Jesus who gave his blood to give us a chance to an abundant, everlasting life.
